King Ahab
First Kings chapter twenty tells of Ben-Hadad of Aram threatening Israel and King Ahab. Ahab is weak, but after the Lord promises victory for His glory, the Israelites defeat Ben-Hadad. However, King Ahab makes a treaty with Ben-Hadad and lets him live; he is disobedient to God. God sends a message to King Ahab through a prophet of his disobedience and that he will pay for it with his own life. Instead of repentance, King Ahab leaves angry. The tragedy of this chapter is that after God delivers victory for Israel in the hills and the valleys "so that they may know He is Lord", neither king surrenders to God. May we not do the same in our lives, receive the obvious evidence of his presence, power, and love...and surrender to him in obedience for His glory.
