Finish the Job
This message was shared on 07/14/24 at First Christian Church in Wilmington, Illinois.
Pastor Jason delivered a thought-provoking sermon emphasizing faith, obedience, and dedication to God through the lens of Caleb’s story from the Bible. He underscored that Caleb and Joshua were the only spies among the twelve who trusted God's promise and dared to conquer the promised land. At the same time, the remainder were held back by their fears, consequentially leading the nation of Israel to wander the wilderness for 40 years. He offered up a personal narrative to drive home his point, detailing an unexpected holiday opportunity received by his family, with smooth planning underscoring God's generosity. The Pastor used this as a parable of divine provision, encouraging the congregation to reflect on their experiences of God’s blessings. Pastor Jason then linked these notions to teachings from the book of Joshua. He stressed that true strength and courage are the products of faith and obedience to God rather than earthly might or power. He implored the congregation to discover freedom by surrendering to God's aims rather than pursuing their desires. Using Joshua chapter 13 as a reference, the Pastor discussed how, despite the Israelite's control over the promised land, adversaries remained to be defeated and people to drive out. He accentuated the significance of each tribe taking responsibility and completing the tasks God entrusted to them. Pastor Jason reiterated these teachings in the context of our lives.
