Hospitality
This sermon was preached on 11/05/23 at First Christian Church in Wilmington, Illinois.
Welcome to our new series, Building Bigger Tables! In this new series, Pastor Jason focuses on the importance of hospitality, an attribute that all Christians should embody. Hospitality demonstrates generosity and friendliness towards not only those we consider friends but also strangers. Jason calls attention to the fact that Jesus himself was incredibly hospitable throughout his ministry and employed the act of sharing meals to foster unity, disregarding peoples' backgrounds or beliefs. In the conclusion of his message, he implores the congregation to extend their hospitality by adding extra chairs to their dinner tables, essentially inviting those alienated from God. We see Jesus's mission on earth, and we reflect it by showing grace, proclaiming his message, and fostering an authentic community where everyone is welcome.
